WHO WE ARE

The Apostolate of St. Charbel Devotee Int’l is a Catholic voluntary membership society. Membership is open to anybody who can adopt our ethos. We believe that everyone should have the means to live life with dignity. We take inspiration from St. Charbel who we venerate. As a young boy, him and his siblings use to prayer, fasting and attending mass every day. Under the care of his stepfather, young Charbel grew spiritually as he assisted him at mass and in serving the community. He spend many hours in prayer at his village grotto praying in front of a photo of the Blessed Virgin Mary bringing with him flowers and incense and candle.

As hermit, his day starts with adoration of the Eucharist, prayers and celebration of the Holy Mystery, followed by manual labour, fasting, penance, continuous prayer, little sleep and mortification of the body, all of which he practiced with utmost humility and love. St. Charbel suffered stroke on December 16th, 1898 while he was reciting the prayer of the Holy Liturgy. As he fell to the floor, he kept his hands clasped around the Holy Eucharist. Eight days later, on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1898, he died while murmuring the name of Jesus, His Blessed mother Mary and St. Joseph. Starting from the night of his death his tomb emanated a bright light. The tomb for the first time was opened on April 15th, 1899, four months after his death and his body was found intact and as of that day exuded blood-like moisture for the next 67 years.

Between 1950 and 1975 his tomb was opened eight times and his body still resembled a living one. By 1977, St. Maroun’s Monastery in Annaya, Mount Lebanon had received 135,000 letters from 95 countries from around the world. They have come from people that wish to share the news of miracles, cures, and wonders performed by St. Charbel.

Today, Apostolate members of St. Charbel are people from all walks of life who want to make a difference to the live of people in need.

HOW WE START.

The Apostolate of St. Charbel Devotee Int’l started as a small prayer group seven years ago at Nsugbe Monastery, not later than a year people from different parts of the country starts to join the group, we use to converge at Nsugbe Monastery once every month for prayers and devotion.

Four years ago, we came down to Ozubulu Monastery following the directive of an Abbot in Nsugbe Monastery, in Ozubulu we seek the services of Rev. Fr. Jude Unigwe to be celebrating Holy Mass for us in the desert of the Monastery, later he introduce us to the Vicar of St. Michael’s Parish Eziora Ozubulu who in turn introduce us to the Parish Priest of St. Michael’s Parish Eziora Ozubulu. We were permitted to be using church premises for our activities and program when numerous Ozubulu indigenes begin to join our programs. We celebrated first feast of St. Charbel on July 24th last year in St. Michael’s Parish after which more souls was win to Christ, we recorded more miracles and testimonies from our members and non-members (Catholic and non-Catholic) through the intercession of St. Charbel.

BACKGROUD

The honoring of the prayer adoration to the Trinity and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Charbel by serious meditation and zealous practice is placed on each member as a solemn trusteeship to the devotee. It is to be regarded as an essential part of devotee duty, ranking before any other obligation of membership.
